Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NexClip AI and Topic-Based Editing.
Topic-Based Editing
What is Topic-Based Editing?
Topic-Based Editing is a different approach to AI video editing. Instead of scrubbing through a timeline, AI analyzes your video, extracts distinct topics, and maps every sentence to relevant topics with relevance scores. You select the topics you want, set a target duration, and get an optimized clip. NexClip AI takes this further with Topic-Based AI-Powered Subclipping — structured subclips you can reorder, toggle, trim frame-by-frame, and export to your NLE. It's especially powerful for long-form content like podcasts, lectures, webinars, and interviews.
How is Topic-Based Editing different from AI clip generators?
Most AI clip generators (OpusClip, Munch, Vizard) decide what's interesting for you — they pick viral moments or engagement peaks. Topic-Based Editing puts you in control: AI extracts all topics from your video, and you decide which ones matter. You get clips that reflect your editorial intent, not an algorithm's guess at what might go viral. Read the full comparison →
How is Topic-Based Editing different from text-based editing?
Text-based editing (like Descript) lets you cut video by editing a transcript — deleting words, removing filler, rearranging sentences. It operates at the word level. Topic-Based Editing operates at the topic level — it identifies what subjects are discussed and lets you choose which ones to keep. They solve different problems and can be complementary. Who is Topic-Based Editing for?
Podcasters, educators, course creators, YouTubers, conference organizers, and corporate training teams. Anyone who works with long-form video (30+ minutes) and needs to extract topic-specific clips efficiently. If you've ever spent hours scrubbing through a recording to find specific segments, this is built for you.
Can I use it for podcasts?
Yes. NexClip AI supports audio-only files (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC) in addition to video files. Import your podcast recording, and the app identifies speakers through diarization, extracts topics, and lets you create focused clips for social media, newsletters, or YouTube — all from the same recording. Can I use it for lecture recordings?
Yes. Import a recorded lecture, and the app automatically extracts every topic covered. Select the topics your students need review clips for, set a target duration, and export. A 60-minute lecture with 8 topics becomes 8 focused review clips. See how educators use it →
Product
What video formats are supported?
NexClip AI supports major video formats on macOS, including MP4, MOV, and M4V, as well as audio-only formats like MP3, WAV, M4A, and FLAC. You can export in MP4 or MOV format with fast hardware encoding via VideoToolbox.
How accurate is the transcription?
We use ElevenLabs Scribe v2 for high-accuracy transcription with automatic speaker identification. Supports Japanese and English with language-specific NLP processing for accurate sentence boundaries. Timecodes are corrected at the word boundary level for natural-sounding cuts.
Can I export to Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro?
Yes. NexClip AI exports in FCPXML (Final Cut Pro / DaVinci Resolve), Premiere XML (Adobe Premiere Pro), and standard MP4. SRT subtitle files are generated automatically with every export. This means you can use NexClip AI for the initial topic-based cut, then refine in your preferred NLE.
Is my video data secure?
NexClip AI is a native macOS app. Video files are processed locally on your Mac — no cloud video processing. Only audio data for transcription is encrypted and sent to our API, then immediately deleted after processing. Your video files never leave your computer.
What languages are supported?
Currently Japanese and English, with language-specific NLP processing for accurate sentence boundaries and topic extraction. More languages are planned for future releases.
